Privacy notice
Last updated 24 October 2026
Mizan LMS is run by Mizan Institute for its students. It asks you a short set of questions each week about that week's worksheet, so that your teacher can see who is keeping up with the course. This notice explains what we store, why, who can see it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
What we store
- Your name and email address, from your Google account when you sign in.
- Your course, your class group, and how you attend (in person, live online or from recordings), from your registration with Mizan Institute.
- Your answers to the weekly checks, your scores, and when you completed them.
We store nothing else. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, and we never sell or share your information.
Why we store it
So that your teacher can see who has done each week's revision and offer help where it's needed. We use your information for nothing else.
Who can see it
Only you and your teacher. Other students can never see your results, and nobody is ranked or compared with anyone else.
Where it's kept
Your name and email address are held by Google's sign-in service (Firebase Authentication), under Google's data protection terms. Your course records, answers and scores are stored in South Africa, in Google Cloud's Johannesburg data centre.
How long we keep it
We keep your record while you are enrolled and for 12 months after your course ends. After that it is deleted.
Students under 18
A parent or guardian gives consent when a student under 18 is registered with Mizan Institute. The app stores information only about students who have been registered.
Your rights
You may ask to see the information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. You may also object to how it is used. Email admin@mizan.co.za and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).
